Asphalt is also known as a bitumen. Asphalt is a black, sticky & highly viscous liquid or semi solid form of petroleum. It is mostly used in road construction. Asphalt is used as a binder for aggregates to make asphalt concrete, also called as an asphalt paving.
Asphalt or bitumen often used in highways, airports, streets, parking and many more places.
In this article we have discussed about the asphalt quantity calculation for road.
We assume data,
Road width – 3.5 m
Road length – 2 km – 2000 m
Road thickness – 140 mm – 0.140 m

In Indian standard code, IS:334 – 2002, asphalt glossary.
Volume of Asphalt = L X B X Thickness
= 2000 x 3.5 x 0.140
= 980 cumt
Quantity of asphalt =
Mass = Volume x Density
= 980 x 2360 (density of asphalt – 2200 to 2400 kg/cum)
= 2312800 tonnes
Need to convert into MT.
Mass = 2312800/1000
= 2312.800 M.T.
We assume 1 ton asphalt cost is 6500 rs.
So, 2312.80 x 6500 = 150,33,200 rs.
To make 3.5 m wide & 2 km road cost is 150,33,200 rs.
