How to calculate shuttering quantity for Beam?

Shuttering is temporary structure used in construction for poured fresh concrete for different structural members. After casting when concrete is achieve strength then shuttering removed. Shuttering is also known as a formwork. Shuttering is always calculated in square meter unit.

In this article we have discussed about the calculate shuttering quantity for beam & slab.

Calculate shuttering quantity for Beam & slab

Shuttering Quantity for Beam:

To calculate shuttering quantity first of all you need to perimeter of any shape.

Here is the formula to calculate perimeter.

Perimeter of Square shape – 4 x Sides

Perimeter of Rectangle shape – (2 x L) + (2 x B)

Perimeter of circle – 2¶R (where R is radius of circle)

Formula to calculate shuttering area:

Shuttering area = Perimeter length x depth

Calculate Shuttering quantity of Beam:

  • Beam Length = 4 m
  • Beam depth = 300 mm
  • Beam Width = 200 mm
Beam Shuttering Calculation

Beam shuttering is done on 3 sides of beam. The beam top surface is not done because concrete is fill using top surface.

Quantity calculation of beam shuttering

Shuttering Area Beam of face 1

= L x B = 4 x 300/1000

= 1.2 sqmt (Here depth is convert into meter 1 m = 1000 mm)

Shuttering Area Beam of face 2

= L x B = 4 x 300/1000

= 1.2 sqmt (Here depth is convert into meter 1 m = 1000 mm)

Shuttering Area Beam of face 3

= L x B = 4 x 200/1000

= 0.8 sqmt (Here depth is convert into meter 1 m = 1000 mm)

Total Shuttering area of beam = 1.2 + 1.2 + 0.8 = 3.2 sqmt

Calculate shuttering area of slab

Slab are rest on beam, so there is no need to provide four sides shuttering. In the beam & column top portion is open to fill concrete same followed for slab. So slab shuttering only bottom shuttering can be done.

Shuttering quantity for slab:

  • Length of slab – 5 m
  • Width of slab – 3 m

Shuttering area of slab

= L x B

= 5 X 3

= 15 sqmt

So these are the methods to calculate shuttering quantity for beam & slab. I hope this helpful to calculate shuttering quantity. If you have any query then you comment in the comment box.
