To calculate the quantity of flooring for room, first of all you know the area of the room or length or width of room. Also, size of flooring materials which are used for flooring.
Flooring Quantity Calculation
Follow below steps:
01 – Measure the Area of the room:
- In this step first measure length and width of room in meters or feet.
- To calculate area just multiply length and width to get area into the sqmt or sqft
Area of room = Length of the room X Width of the room
02 – Determine the area of flooring materials:
- After calculate flooring are next calculate flooring material area, which means if you are used flooring tiles size 600 mm X 600mm or any other.
Area of flooring tile = Length of the one flooring tile X Width of the one flooring tile
03 – Calculate Number of flooring tiles:
- To calculate how much tiles required for your room, just divide total area of room by area of one tile.
Total Tiles needed=Area of room/Area of one tile
04 – Considered wastage:
- Don’t forget to considered wastage of material. Because in the flooring corners and other area need to take wastage. It is good idea to considered add 5-10% for wastage, cutting or any mistake.
Total tiles needed = Number of tiles needed + (Number of tiles needed*10%)

Example Calculation for Flooring Quantity & Tiles Calculation:
We considered,
Room size:
- Length = 5 meter
- Width = 4 meter
Tiles Size:
- Length = 600 mm = 0.6 m
- Width = 600 mm = 0.6 m
01 – Area of room = 5 m X 4 m = 20 Sqmt
02 – Area for one tile = 0.6 m X 0.6 m = 0.36 sqmt
03 – Number of tiles needed = 20 / 0.36 = 56 Nos.
04 – Add 10% Extra for wastage = 56+(56 X 10/100) = 62 Nos.
So, for your 20 sqmt area you will need 62 numbers flooring tiles.
